Co-op is providing $1M to fund local community projects

February 1, 2021

While we’ve been staying safe by staying apart, Co-op Community Spaces continues to fund projects that will one day, bring us back together.

Co-op Community Spaces was launched in 2015 to help protect, beautify and improve spaces across Western Canada. Since then, we have provided $9.5 million to 132 projects for the benefit of over two million people.

“Supporting local communities has always been at the heart of local Co-ops, and over the years Community Spaces funding has helped to provide better access to local food sources, created more opportunities for recreation and improved natural spaces,” said Pam Skotnitsky, Federated Co-operatives Limited’s Vice-President, Strategy. “We’re proud to see Co-ops continue to find ways to invest in projects that improve their communities and bring people together, when it’s safe to do so.”

Between $25,000 and $150,000 of capital funding per project is available. Co-op invites registered non-profit organizations, registered charities or community service co-operatives to apply online between February 1 and March 1, 2021. Program funding categories include recreation, environmental conservation and urban agriculture.

FCL administers the giving program on behalf of more than 160 independent local co-ops across Western Canada that form the Co-operative Retailing System.
