Co-op claims 26 spots on Sask. Top 100 list
March 4, 2021
Co-op’s commitment to providing goods and services and giving back through investments in its communities remained strong in 2020 despite the challenges facing the overall Saskatchewan economy.
This success is reflected in SaskBusiness Magazine’s recently released 2020 ranking of the Top 100 companies in Saskatchewan by revenue, which includes Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL), maintaining second position, and 25 local Co-ops throughout the list. The sales of FCL and local Co-ops reached a combined total of almost $12.1 billion in 2019.
“Reflecting on the last year, I think we can truly appreciate the value of the Co-operative Retailing System on multiple levels,” said FCL CEO Scott Banda.
“No matter if you look before, during or beyond the pandemic, it’s clear that Co-ops remain relevant and continue to provide meaningful, positive economic impacts in their communities. Because together We Are Co-op, we invest in our communities through capital investments, donations, and profit sharing with members.”
Economic impact in Saskatchewan
Today, there are more than 90 local Co-ops in Saskatchewan operating hundreds of food stores, home centres, gas bars, commercial cardlock facilities, agro centres and liquor outlets. This network is supported FCL’s operations, which includes the Co-op Refinery Complex in Regina, Terra Grain Fuels in Belle Plaine and Co-op Fertilizer Terminal in Hanley.
Together, FCL and these local Co-ops employ close to 10,000 people in Saskatchewan.
