Farms exempted from carbon levy at cardlocks

March 22, 2019

Farm fuel distributed through Co-op Cardlocks across Saskatchewan and Manitoba will be exempt from the Federal Fuel Charge, commonly referred to as the carbon levy, resulting from the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change.

In collaboration with industry partners, Federated Co-operatives Limited raised concerns with the Government of Canada in the lead-up to the implementation of the levy on April 1.

“While reviewing the legislation in detail, we noticed a discrepancy with respect to cardlocks and worked with the federal government to come to a resolution before the levy came into effect,” said Pam Skotnitsky, FCL’s Vice-President of Strategy. “We appreciate the government’s attention and quick response in addressing the matter, helping us to continue serving our farm customers from these cardlock facilities.”

Farm customers in Saskatchewan and Manitoba must complete the Fuel Charge Exemption Certificate for Farmers and submit it to their local co-op to be eligible for this exemption.

Co-op’s network of more than 370 cardlock locations across Western Canada provides quick and reliable service to customers, including those in the agriculture industry, through secure, 24-hour operations.
