Statement on Unifor replacement worker video

January 9, 2020

The Co-op Refinery Complex (CRC) is once again disappointed but not surprised by Unifor’s tactics and the release of a video about replacement workers. It is abundantly clear that Unifor’s Toronto-based leadership have no respect for anyone but themselves and that their tactics are not in line with Canadian values.

“We will ensure that we protect the safety and well-being of those individuals featured in the video,” said Gil Le Dressay, Vice-President of Refinery Operations. “These folks are on our site doing a job that we need them to do, and they are committed and want to be here. They do not deserve to be treated this way. Unifor’s behaviour and these tactics are not acceptable.”

What Unifor is doing with the release of this video and what they have done in the past to individuals in Gander, Nfld., is simply indecent. The CRC will focus on ensuring support and security measures are in place for those who are featured in the video.
