Don Mathies of Herbert, SK., was elected to the Board of FCL in 2019. Don is one of the directors elected by District 3 which is comprised of 45 retails in Saskatchewan. Don has primary responsibility for thirteen Retail members which are located in the western part of the District.
As an FCL Director, Don is a member of the Board’s Audit Committee. In addition, he is the Board’s representative to the Co-operative Superannuation Society and The Co-operators.
Don was elected to the Herbert Co-op Board of Directors in 2009 and then, when it amalgamated, to the Pioneer Co-op’s Board of Directors from 2012 until present.
Don has completed all of FCL’s governance training courses offered throughout the years. He has completed two modules of the FCL Director Development Program, including Foundations of Co-operative Governance and Building Strategic Leadership. Most recently, in the Fall of 2020, Don has completed the latest pilot training course for Director Development.
Since 2009, Don has actively participated as a rural municipal councillor, presently serving on several committees including Waste Management and the Swift Current Creek Watershed Stewards.
Don and his wife, Esther, have been involved in farming and ranching for over 35 years and presently reside on their farm near Herbert. They have two married sons and five grandchildren, who bring great joy to their lives.
