Don Mathies

Don Mathies of Herbert, Sask., was elected to the Board of FCL in 2019. Don represents 13 retail co-operatives in FCL’s district 7, which covers a large geographical area in southwest Saskatchewan.

As an FCL Director, Don is a member of the Board’s Audit Committee. In addition, he is the Board’s representative to the Saskatchewan Co-operative Association.

Don was elected to the Herbert Co-op Board of Directors in 2009 and then, when it amalgamated, to the Pioneer Co-op’s Board of Directors from 2012 until present.

Don has completed many of FCL’s governance training courses offered throughout the years. Most recently, he has completed two modules of the FCL Director Development Program, including Foundations of Co-operative Governance and Building Strategic Leadership.

Since 2009, Don has actively participated as an rural municipality councillor, presently serving on numerous committees including the Swift Current Creek Watershed Stewards, Southwest Municipal Government, Herbert Recreation and the Herbert Ferry Regional Park Board.

Don and his wife, Esther, have been involved in farming and ranching for over 35 years and presently reside on their farm near Herbert. They have two married sons and five grandchildren, who bring great joy to their lives.
