Doug Potentier of Victoria, B.C., was first elected to the FCL Board of Directors in 2008 and served as the Vice-Chair of the board for four years (2015-2019). He represents the 13 retail co-operatives in FCL’s District 4, which covers Vancouver Island and the northwest, southwest and interior of British Columbia.
As an FCL Director, Doug is a member of the Board’s Audit and Credentials Committees. In addition, he is the Board’s representative to the British Columbia Co-operative Association, The Co-operators and Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC). In his four years at CMC, he has served as their Governance and HR committee chair and is currently the President of the Board. Doug’s term on CMC ends in June 2019 at their AGM where Director, Sharon Alford, will start her term on CMC.
Over the years, Doug has been very involved in his community, serving on various community organizations including 15 years as a Director on the Peninsula Co-op Board.
A certified Canadian Management Professional (CMP) since 1998. He also received his ICD.D designation after successfully completing the Institute of Corporate Directors training in September 2008 – Directors Education Program (DEP) for Directors of Large Companies/Organizations – offered by Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.
Doug retired from the Victoria Police Department, where he was the Deputy Chief, in 2001. He and his wife Darlene have two children and four grandchildren.
