Co-op receives recognition for community giving
October 23, 2017
Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) continues to build strong communities where it operates, becoming an Imagine Canada Caring Company in 2017.
Imagine Canada recognizes businesses that lead by example with a commitment to donate a minimum of one per cent of pre-tax profit to community organizations. In 2016, FCL contributed $9.8 million in cash and in-kind donations to charitable and non-profit organizations across Western Canada.
“With the support of the Co-operative Retailing System, charitable giving is only one way FCL contributes to Western Canada,” said FCL CEO Scott Banda. “Investing in and being a part of the community is an integral part of how co-operatives are built and how they thrive. Being owned by our members and giving back is foundational to who we are.”
FCL has established programs such as Co-op Community Spaces, engaged employees through giving programs like the Community Investment Fund, partnered with organizations like the Canadian Red Cross and contributed regularly to local food banks.
Canada’s oldest and leading corporate citizenship initiative, the Caring Company Program exists to be the bridge between community-minded companies and their charitable and non-profit partners. Counting more than 90 Canadian businesses as participants in the Caring Company Program, Imagine Canada recognizes each one as a community investment role model.
