Co-op contest nets three $30K cash winners

May 29, 2015

People dream of vehicles, home renovations or vacations – the top response in an online Co-op poll – should they ever win a prize in a contest like Co-op’s Fuel Up to Win. One $30,000 grand prize winner has a more practical plan.

“I’m planning to use the money to go back to school,” said Jessica English, a Co-op member and resident of Cooks Creek, Man.

“It was completely unexpected….I kind of already forgot about it because I knew the contest was closed.”

During the eight-week Fuel up to Win promotion, which began Feb. 28, customers received game tickets with a qualifying purchase with three opportunities to win: instant win, collect to win and online win.

Now that the contest has ended, all three guaranteed $30,000 cash prizes have been awarded. Two winners found all of the right Co-op locations in the collect to win part of the contest: Elenita Macarthur of Calgary, Alta., and Justin Mellor of Martensville, Sask. Because one of the prizes was not claimed in the collect to win game, English won through a random draw of online entries.

Other prizes distributed in the collect to win game included:

  • 11 winners of free gas for a year;
  • Two winners of free groceries for a year;
  • 12 winners of a DeWalt tool assortment;
  • Nine winners of a Poulan Pro lawnmower;
  • Six winners of a Broil King Baron 440 barbecue
  • 13 winners of a Hamilton Beach appliance set
  • 328 winners of a $50 CO-OP gift card

Online Win

There were also 56 online daily winners of $50 gift cards and eight online weekly winners of $1,000 in gift cards.

“I was totally shocked and surprised,” said Debora Martinson, a resident of Winkler, Man., who won the online grand prize of $10,000 in gift cards.

Martinson has some ideas about what to do with her winnings, including building a ramp and deck for her home.

“I have (multiple sclerosis), and I’m in a wheelchair half the time. I use a walker at home. Right now, there are only stairs in my house, which makes things a little difficult.”

Double Up Sweepstakes

In 2015, Co-op customers had a fourth opportunity to win in Fuel Up to Win. Customers collecting eight duplicate collect to win stickers had a second chance to win with the Double Up Sweepstakes. The winners of a vacation getaway include: Wendy Radcliffe from Cardale, Man., Nicole Klassen from Herbert, Sask., Samantha Johnson from Tofino, B.C., and Jim Bews from Calgary, Alta.

There were also thousands of instant prize winners of discounts or free products.

Congratulations to the many winners and thank you to all of the Co-op customers who entered the contest this year. For a complete list of winners, go to www.fueluptowin.ca/contest/prizesAndWinners.
